Theme-Driven Approach (Stronger Method): Structure each paragraph around a central argument or insight that advances your main thesis. Literary techniques become tools that support your point, not the point itself.

Example: "From the beginning of chapter one, the author reveals how deeply isolated the character feels, reinforcing the novel's exploration of human disconnection. [Follow up sentence mentions technique] One way this is accomplished is through establishing a sombre tone . . .”

Device-Driven Approach (Weaker Method): Organize paragraphs by literary technique categories (metaphor paragraph, symbolism paragraph, etc.). This creates choppy analysis where techniques exist in isolation rather than serving a unified argument.

Example: "Metaphors appear throughout the text to create atmosphere."
